This homemade blue cheese dressing recipe is full of rich flavor and has the perfect smooth and creamy texture! Salty Gorgonzola cheese and tangy buttermilk give this dressing a bold and intensely savory taste. Enjoy it on salads or as a delectable dip for chicken wings!

Cuisine: American
Diet: Diabetic, Vegetarian
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon minced yellow onion
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 8 ounces crumbled Gorgonzola cheese or blue cheese
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Combine dressing ingredients in a mixing bowl. Mix well and refrigerate.

Notes

This dressing won’t be like bottled blue cheese dressing, which uses modified food starch to thicken and stabilize it. I suggest using “thicker” products. For example, some sour creams may not be as thick as others (we use Daisy), and full-fat buttermilk will be thicker than lower-fat buttermilk.
Yield:  3 cups
MAKE AHEAD:  I recommend making it a day ahead of time so the flavors have a chance to blend. This dressing lasts for about one week in the refrigerator.
